Welcome to EYFS
Here at St Nicholas C of E Primary and Nursery School we recognise the importance of giving our children the best possible start to their education by planning and implementing teaching and learning opportunities that promote a love for learning. We believe that all children deserve an education rich in motivating, first-hand experiences, both indoors and outdoors, that allow creativity and curiosity to grow, alongside the development of key skills and knowledge. Our Nursery and Reception settings are welcoming, safe and stimulating; a place where children are able to enjoy learning and grow in confidence.
Within the EYFS at St Nicholas, we follow the Early Years Statutory Framework, provided by the Department for Education (DFE). The framework sets out the requirement for learning and development and focuses on prime and specific areas. These are broken down into seven areas of the EYFS Curriculum:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
We recognise that every child is unique, and we embrace this. Our learning is led by the interests of the children and our planning and delivery complements this. We aim to provide an interesting and varied curriculum that intrigues our children while celebrating and appreciating all backgrounds, cultures and abilities. Our environment has been designed to support our children to be fully engaged in purposeful play allowing for learning in all areas of the curriculum. Enhancements are added to the environment to stimulate progression in all areas of the EYFS curriculum. The impact of our curriculum is reflected in having well rounded, happy and confident children transitioning into Year 1 and ready to begin their lifelong learning journey.
