Intent

Religious Education at St Nicholas enables every child to grow and flourish, and we offer a multidisciplinary approach to the curriculum which allows students to view religion from a variety of perspectives. By the end of their time at school, all our children will have the opportunity to study RE through a variety of ‘lenses’, such as psychology, philosophy, sociology and theology. They will find out about peoples’ worldwide views enabling them to see how different people believe and how this impacts their lives. They will have the opportunity to study a range of world religions and non-religious worldviews, and we are committed to ensuring that our RE curriculum is up to date on current thinking. Religious education provokes challenging questions about the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, beliefs about God, oneself and the nature of reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. It challenges pupils to reflect on, consider, analyse, interpret and evaluate issues of truth, belief, faith and ethics and to communicate their responses. As a school, we celebrate all faiths and cultures and aim that pupils have a breadth of understanding equipping them for the future. We strive for our pupils to become well-rounded members of society, which has its foundation truly set in the values of respect, forgiveness, truthfulness, generosity, perseverance, trust, friendship, courage, compassion, thankfulness and service.
