New Head Teacher at St Nicholas School
7th January 2015
Dear Parent,
A very happy new year to you all and welcome back to school. What a very exciting time we have ahead this term and for the rest of the year. A very special welcome to those families that join us anew this year and welcome back to those who have been with us a little longer. All key dates will be available on the schools website and lots of information will be on there, on FROG and of course on your weekly newsletter. I just wished to take a moment to send you all a letter to introduce myself as your new head teacher.
I have known I would be coming to St Nicholas since June of 2014 it has seemed a very long time between then and my finally starting on the 5th January 2015. I wish straight away to say a very big thank you to Mrs Helen Ackerman who was your interim head teacher last term. Thank you as parents and carers to welcoming her to your school community and I hope you will be able to welcome me in the same way. Also a very big thank you to the teachers and support staff who make this school such a wonderful and exciting place for all our children. I am very much looking forward to working with such a great team and to getting to know all of our families better.
I come to the school as an experienced head teacher having served at Sutton VA Lower School in Bedfordshire. I have also worked as a teacher across Bedfordshire and Essex. As well as my headship I have also been responsible for running a teacher training program and also working for the National College of Schools and Colleges as a facilitator for Leadership programs for teachers and governors. However, teaching was not my first career, as on leaving university, I joined Hertfordshire Constabulary as a Police Constable. My true passion is making learning exciting and ensuring that all children reach their full potential. Early learning is crucial for successful lives and I very much hope that you as parents will be able to support my staff and myself on making your child’s learning journey here at St Nicholas as productive as possible.
I am a Values Ambassador and so will be working with the children and staff in obtaining the coveted Values Accreditation and we begin that process with gaining rewards in school for showing our Values. Look out for postcards arriving through the post soon if your child has been the one in their class working hardest at their Values. This month we work particularly on Friendship.
I warmly invite you all to join me at the meet the head teacher event this week. I look forward to getting to know you all better and to ensuring a successful and bright future for our school.
Yours truly,
Sarah Stevens
