Special Educational Needs

This page is designed to give you information about the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision at St Nicholas Church of England Primary School and Nursery. There is a range of information about how we support children with special educational needs in school as well as local and national information that you may find useful.

Our local authority also works really hard to support our families and children and the link below (click on the picture) will take you through to a range of information about Hertfordshire's local offer and how they can support you and your family.

Zones of Regulation

All staff have received training with the educational psychologist service around Zones of Regulation. The goal of the curriculum is to teach children about self-regulation and how to strengthen their self-regulation skills.  Self-regulation can go by many names, such as self-control, self-management, and impulse control. Self-regulation is an essential skill in life, and in all learning environments. Children who can regulate their own emotion and attention are better ready to learn and flourish.

The children learn about identifying emotions in themselves and others and the tools to enable them to regulate and return to the green zone.

It is important to understand that everyone experiences each of the zones at different times, it is how we recognise and manage our emotions that is important.  The Zones of Regulation provides the skills to enable us to achieve this.

Please find links below with further information for parents.

At St Nicholas, the SENCO is responsible for making sure all the children receive appropriate support for any challenges that may impact their learning. If you have any concerns about your child's development or learning you can contact her on senco@stnicholas120.herts.sch.uk

Questions?

If you have any questions or queries about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at any point during your child’s time at our school, please speak to your child’s class teacher or SENCO.
