Geography

Intent

Geography is taught as a discrete subject in school. This enables children to embed the core geographical skills and gain an understanding of the world in a geographical way. In addition to this, there is evidence of strong cross-curricular links with other subjects, which serves to deepen learning. Geography is taught in a way that promotes interesting class discussion and allows children to share their own experiences of places.

Through Geography there are many opportunities for children to learn about different cultures and understanding of how widely different parts of our world contrast. Through an atmosphere of inclusivity, children are allowed to learn about and discuss elements of democracy, respect, law, liberty and other cultures. This is done in a sensitive manner which seeks to prepare our children for later life.
